With the gites you have peace and tranquility in your own private surroundings and yet in very close proximity there are countless chateaux and abbeys, medieval towns, prehistoric parks and caves.

Brantome is particularly beautiful (centre picture) and is known in the region as the 'Venice of the Perigord' as the village is surrounded by 3 rivers, there is a large Benedictine Abbey with troglodyte caves to discover as well as plenty of walks around the botanic gardens and the village itself.   As you can imagine there are numerours cafes and restaurants along the riverfront where it's great just to people watch and enjoy a glass or two of wine!

Riberac has one of the best markets in the region and is held on Friday morning, mouth watering melons and strawberries, smelly cheeses and saucissons - fantastic.  For anyone wanting to dine out there are numerous family friendly restaurants that we can recommend.

Le Grand Lake Jemaye (above left picture) is just up the road which in the summer is split into fishing, watersport and swimming sections. The swimming section has sand around it making it feel like a real beach and the kids love it, there are lifeguards patrolling and so it's safe as well.  There is a playground for kids, volleyball area and restaurants and cafes, there are pedaloes to hire and also you can take a canoe out onto the lake for FREE.

Perigueux is the 'capital' of the region and has a beautiful and charming medieval quarter which is a must for visitors, its cobbled streets are like a maze all leading to different squares where people just wile away the sunny days eating, drinking & socialising.

Aubeterre is a lovely village, with its own riverside beach and a monolithic church that has been cut into the rock face - a truly awe inspiring site.

Bourdeilles has two chateaux side by side, next to the looming feudal fortress is the superb XVIc Renaissance palace.  Many of our guests particularly like this village.

Bergerac has an old quarter that stretches out from above the quays through quaint alleys and old squares with many fine stone and half timbered buildings - a painters delight.  On market days don't miss the sumptuous fish stalls!   You can take a restored or reproduction gabares down the river for wonderful views of the quays and old town.

These are just a few villages & towns definitely worth a visit, we have a very full folder in each of the gites with all the other attractions in the area waiting to be discovered, come and have a look and discover a beautiful and unspoilt area of France.
